Give it a go on Skype…

A quick update because a rather hectic last few weeks has meant the blog has taken a back seat behind moving house, a short working-weekend break to the Lake District and a number of gigs in far flung locations which have all eaten into my time. And that’s not taking into account the mixing of the new Storey album, which has started with abandon! Anyway, today I’d like to discuss a new part of my website which as I’ve mentioned in recent posts, has undergone something of a transformation in recent weeks in anticipation of my forthcoming move to Toulouse. There is still no fixed move-date, as I really want to finish the ‘Echoes of Time’ before I leave the country but it’s still looking like late September at this stage, if not early October.

One of the things I’m hoping to do once I get across the channel is do more guitar teaching on SKYPE:. I’ve been doing a few lessons from home lately and it’s proving to be a big success for both me and the students who are giving it a go. Obviously it’s different to teaching 1-on-1 in the same room but it’s actually more effective than I’d expected. To be able to do this I’ve had to scan and upload electronic copies of ALL of my lesson notes which I’ve developed over the last 10 years of teaching. This has been a fairly longwinded process but now they’re up on the website it seems to have been worthwhile because all of my students can access pretty much all of the songs I’ve transcribed and use in my teaching, and download them at a click of a button – cool!

I guess eventually I’ll password-protect the page so only my Skype students can access it but until then they’re free for everyone to download, and you can do so by clicking this LINK which will take you to the ‘Teaching Materials’ section of this website. I’ve actually got a whole load more notes to upload but what is up there is a good start.

If you’re interested in having guitar lessons, and would consider having lessons from the comfort of your own home via Skype with an experienced professional, then drop me a line for a chat. Having given up an enormous number of students to make the move from Berkshire to Toulouse, I’m effectively building up my student base again from scratch. To help speed up that process, I’m going to be teaching at an introductory rate of £20/hour, rather than the considerably higher rates I’ve grown accustomed to over the years. Grab it while it’s there!

In other news, two of my friends are about to release new singles and in the spirit of supporting other talented musicians, I’d like to draw your attention to them here:

Johnny Ashby, who is currently in Los Angeles performing and promoting, releases his next single ‘Hurricane’ on the 25th of this month – you can listen and download by following him on Facebook; just click HERE. You can even grab a sneak preview by watching the video here:

And my Canadian friend Ben Caplan who I’ve spoken about in previous posts released his latest single ‘Birds With Broken Wings’ only two days ago. It’s brilliant and you can listen / download that immediately by clicking HERE.

Finally, I’m having a pre-France leaving do / gig at one of my favourite pubs in London – The New Inn in South Ealing – on Friday 4th September. I’ll be playing with my covers band, UNDERCOVER and it will be lots of fun; as long as singing, drinking and dancing is your idea of fun! Come on down – W5 5EX. That’ll do for now as I’m currently part-way through a mix and need to get back to it. Good to give my ears a rest though.

Keep in touch, feel free to share, comment or sign up for my RRS feed.
